Dr. Paola Ivanov is an Italian ethnologist. She works as a curator at the Ethnological Museum Berlin (National Museums of Berlin, Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation) and is responsible for the collections from East / North East / Central and South Africa. She also teaches as a private lecturer at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at Freie Universität Berlin.

Her research, publications, and exhibitions focus on art, aesthetics and visual/material culture in Africa, including its reception in Europe, African history, and global cooperation. She is also involved in provenance research on ethnological collections and the possibilities of transnational cooperation with the so-called societies of origin. In this context, she has established a partnership between the Ethnological Museum Berlin and Tanzania and is the contact person for the cooperation project with Angola.
