Achille Mbembe, born in 1957, is a Cameroonian historian and political philosopher. He is one of the pioneers of postcolonialism. Mbembe has taught at Columbia University, the University of California at Berkeley, Yale University and Duke University, and now at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. For his book Critique of Black Reason, Mbembe was awarded the 36th Geschwister-Scholl Prize in 2015.
