Led by Queer Ear Mastering

What is mastering? Starting with a brief historical overview that looks at how the job of mastering has changed from the era of vinyl, through CDs and digital streaming, this workshop walks participants through basic mastering equipment and studio setups, and common issues and best practices for production, based on our own experience in mastering. 

Together they will look at converters, volume control, understanding meters such as DbFS, Peak RMS, Loudness, and the importance of understanding your monitoring situation and treating your studio space. They will also go through a few examples and offer tips based on their own mastering work, pointing out common issues in tracks that they receive from the artists, and identifying which ones the participants might be able to handle themselves versus those that are best left to the mastering engineer.
