Mafar

Mafar

“Mafar” is a Palestinian band that creates alternative rock music. The band consists of 5 members and was formed in Bethlehem, Palestine in 2014. The band started with the vocalist Jeries Ba’besh and the guitarist Marwan Samara, and the main idea was to re-establish a foundation for alternative music in Palestine and build a new scene for independent music in general.

They came up with the idea to form the band and play different kinds of music locally. However, the band eventually settled down on playing alternative indie rock music before being reformed to include a drummer, a pianist, a main guitarist and a sound engineer. “Mafar” means “escape” that describes life as a maze that people want to escape from. Moreover, it is well-known that the band sings lyrics that criticize social and political issues.
