The workshop is conducted by DataEthics/ Gry Hasselbalch and Rikke Frank Jørgensen, with presentations by Carolina Aguerre and Paul Nemitz.

Artificial intelligence technologies are transforming the power relations between citizens, states and institutions in society. New socio-technical systems with AI capabilities are reinforcing asymmetries of power, challenging citizens’ fundamental rights and creating new powerful actors. These new AI infrastructures and architectures of power increasingly shape our democracy and democratic institutions, public institutions and services, public health care, identity and social networking and finance. In this session we shed light on the theoretical and conceptual underpinnings of power and AI in a global context. We explore the topic from different cross-disciplinary perspectives sensitive to questions of power and interests - from humanist approaches and cultural studies to Science & Technology studies (STS), internet governance studies and legal human rights studies. The end goal of the session is to present a method and a conceptual framework to explore and make visible the power dynamics of AI creating the foundations for human-centric AI development, governance and implementation.

This workshop is aimed at the participants of the summer school and will not be available online.
