Julia Jaroschewski

Investigative Journalist

Julia Jaroschewski is an investigative journalist, political scientist (M.A.) and the founder of BuzzingCities Lab, a think tank that investigates how digitalisation affects security and criminal organisations in hot spots of urban violence such as favelas in Brazil. She is also a lecturer on security and drug policy. Julia studied political science, sociology and communication sciences at the Free University of Berlin and the Universidade de Coimbra. As a freelance foreign correspondent, she has reported from Latin America, the USA, India and Africa for media such as Der Spiegel, Wired Germany Magazine and Die Welt over the past ten years, focusing on foreign politics, organised crime/drug war and security policy. As a fellow of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and the Dr. Rita and Alexander Besser Foundation, she reported from Brazil and South Africa. In 2016 she was part of the international journalism programme for South America, working for the Brazilian newspaper O Globo. She has worked in India as a Media Ambassador for the Robert Bosch Stiftung. 2018 she was the project lead/fellow of the European Journalism Center and the Gates Foundation working on the Alternative Drug War in countries such as Colombia and the Philippines. She is a member of the Global Diplomacy Lab (GDL) and the Bosch Alumni network.
