Mārcis Rubenis, founder of collective "Free Riga," is a city maker and organizer working to transform the city's empty spaces into social, cultural and creative places. Born in Riga before the collapse of the Soviet Union and growing up through the striking contrasts of savage capitalism in the 1990s and Riga as the fastest growing capital in the EU in the late 2000s, he is interested in how history, collective myths and trauma, as well as prevailing ideologies are forming empty spaces in our consciousness and how they are reflected in the urban fabric.
