Originally a part of Weimar’s medieval city fortifications, the structure was used as a defensive tower until the mid-eighteenth century. Due to its subsequent use as the headquarters of the Landschaftskasse, the tower was given the name “Kasseturm.” In 1962, the Kasseturm was converted into the first student club of the GDR and since then has served as an open platform for a wide range of creative expressions.
