With a distinct gesture, the newly constructed library and lecture hall building of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar pays deference to the historic inner city of Weimar. Built by meck architekten of Munich in 2005, the project received the 2006 Thuringian State Award for Architecture and Urban Development. The building’s architectural style is characterized by transparency and openness. From the urban space, the glass façade affords a view of the interior of the library and central lecture hall, the Audimax.
