1804 - 1815 she and her siblings are educated in music and literature by private teachers; they receive a quite liberal education; because of her premature birth, she was a weak child who suffered from ill health a lifetime
1825 travels to Bonn, Cologne and Koblenz to visit relatives and to meet other German writers, including Adele Schopenhauer and A.W. Schlegel
1831 meets the novelist Levin Schücking (1814-1883) and falls in love with him; but the 17-years-younger Schücking regards her only as a good friend; anyway he encourages her writing.
1838 releases first collection of poems; Annette's first book was met with either disrespect or lack of interest and only 74 copies were sold
1841 writes her most famous poem, the ballad "Der Knabe im Moor" (The Boy in the Moor)
1844 releases second collection of poems
1851 publishes "The Spiritual Year", a collection of religious and philosophical poems
today Annette von Droste-Hülshoff is regarded as the most significant female poet of her age. To honour her, her portrait adorned the German 20-mark note until the introduction of the Euro
