1933– 1938 initially supports National Socialism; an SS magazine attacks a publication “Selected Poems”; subsequently officially banned from writing
1943 1945 illegal publication of “Zweiundzwanzig Gedichte 1936-1943”
1945   suicide of his wife, returns to Berlin, works as physician  
1948- 1949 publications of poems, essays and prose and the autobiography “Doppelleben”
1950 awarded Georg-Büchner Prize
