Hanna Haaslahti was born in 1969 and is a media artist working and living in Helsinki. She works in the field of visual arts and new media (interactive installations and experimental films). She earned a B.A. in photography from the Lahti Institute of Design in Finland and studied set design at the Art Academy of Verona in Italy. She was an exchange student in the Department of Arts and Technology at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago 1996/97 and completed her media studies at the Medialab of the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki, earning a M.F.A in 2001. She has been artist-in-residence at MagicMediaLab in Brussels (2000), at the Helsinki-Brussels artist exchange program (2002), at Nifca NewMediaAir in St. Petersburg (2003), and at the Cité International des Arts in Paris (2008). She received an honorary mention at the Vida 6.0 Art and Artificial Life International Competition (2003), and was selected in the fifty best category of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe Siemens Medienkunstpreis (2003). She has received the most prestigious Finnish media art prize, the AVEKAward (2005), and a five-year artist grant from the Arts Council of Finland (2010).
