Curriculum vitae

Alasdair Foster is the director of the Sydney based Australian Centre for Photography (ACP), Australia’s leading photo-art centre and the longest running contemporary art space in the country. He has a broad eclectic background in photography, physics, film, curation, history and writing. He has served a numerous cultural planning groups and committees nationally and internationally.
Before joining ACP in 1998, Alasdair Foster was the founding director of “Fotofeis”, the award-winning international biennial of photo-based art in Scotland. This groundbreaking festival spanned the whole country creating innovative links between the museum, contemporary art, community and public art sectors in Scotland and internationally. “Fotofeis” was the largest photographic festival in Europe in the 90s.
As director of ACP, Alasdair Foster is committed to establishing the Centre as a leader in innovative cultural delivery and a catalyst for the creation of contemporary photomedia art. The Centre includes exhibition spaces and a public-access workshop, where courses are run for over 1,000 students a year. ACP also published “Photofile”, Australia's leading photo-art magazine. Alasdair Foster is currently president of CAOs, the contemporary arts organisations of Australia.
