Gated Communities and Public Spaces

Through the transregional project „Gated Communities and Public Spaces“, the Goethe-Institut of Manila (Philippines) and Lagos (Nigeria) are hoping to bring attention to the disappearing public spaces in megacities. Leading by example, the project started off in Manila, the megacity of the Philippines: A group of six Filipino photographers went on a one week field study in photography, from April 12 to April 24, 2015, and found out what public spaces mean to them personally. Under the guidance of three experts, German photographer Thies Rätzke and two Filipino photographers Veejay Villafranca and Charlie Saceda, the participants worked out their stories pictorially and develop their own „photo stories“ – each using their own methods and personal views. Also part of the group, was guest photographer Logo Oluwamuyiwa Adeyemi from Nigeria.
