Amazonas – Acoustic Memo-Game

The acoustic memo-game activity actually works like all other memory games that you might already know. The only difference is that you relate sounds instead of pictures. This can be a bit more complicated because we are used to concentrating on visual input, which is everything you see, like pictures, photos, films, colours, etc. The acoustic perception, on the other hand, includes everything that concerns your hearing, like sounds and music, for example. And this is exactly what is required in this game.

A lot of sounds that you will hear in the acoustic memo-game are nature sounds from the Amazon rainforest. Those sounds were recorded by Moritz Büchner from the ZKM (Centre for art and media-technology in Karlsruhe, Germany) when he was visiting with the Yanomami. Other sounds that you can hear are chants of the Yanomami, taken from the CD "REAHU HE A - Cantos da festa Yanomami" released by the Hutukara Associação Yanomami (HAY).

So, here we go! Concentrate on what you hear, listening your way into the Amazon rainforest and finding the matching sounds!

Have fun!
