Photo (detail): © Petr Štědroň Petr Štědroň studied German and art history at the Faculty of Philosophy of Masark University in Brno. He worked as a dramaturge at the Mahen Theatre of the National Theatre Brno, then as artistic director at the Reduta Theatre. He is currently the director of the Prague theatre Divadlo Na zábradlí and head of the Prague German Language Theatre Festival. He has published specialist texts in the fields of German and theatre studies and works as a university lecturer. He has also translated various plays from German (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Peter Handke, Peter Turrini, Roland Schimmelpfennig and Georg Tabori), opera libretti (Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, Grigorij Frid’s The Diary of Anne Frank, J. W. von Goethe’s The Magic Flute, Part Two (the opera libretto Noci Dnem based on this fragment), and prose (including Judith Hermann, Katja Lange-Müller, Katharina Hagena, Wilhelm Genazino and Peter Handke). He was nominated for the Josef Jungmann Prize in 2014 for his translation of Wilhelm Genazino's An Umbrella for One Day. Štědroň lives in Prague.
