Drama For Life

Drama for Life (DFL) is Africa’s premier drama, theatre, performance and research programme hosted at Wits University encompassing groundbreaking postgraduate studies, festivals, conferences, original productions and collaborative work.
The project is devoted to building capacity in education, health and cultural development through theatre, with specific reference to the HIV/Aids pandemic. Drama for Life is about changing consciousness around HIV/Aids, and seeking to inspire communities through personal and interpersonal learning through the arts, introducing contemporary processes while paying respect to the rich indigenous knowledge of Africa.
The collaborative work of Drama for Life forms an integral part of the training and capacity building of the sixteen exceptional new scholars who represent nine; African countries in 2011. There are now a total of 64 DFL graduates working in the field in 14 different African Countries. The Goethe-Institut and GIZ support the programme through their regional network and with scholarships.
