National Science Week

The National Science Week goes online this year. For this special week, the Goethe-Institut has put together a selection of online science films and videos, DIY science experiments and quizzes that schools can access for free.
Most materials are based on the CLIL approach and combine science, technology and German. There is also a selection of resources that are fully available in English and can be used for science and technology activities.

Checker Tobi and the Secret of the Planet

The documentary feature film "Checker Tobi and the Secret of the Planet"  was recognized as an outstanding work of scientific journalism in 2019 as part of the Science Film Festival. Checker Tobi discovers a message in a bottle containing a mysterious riddle about the secret of our planet. To solve it, he undertakes an adventurous journey to various unknown places on this earth.

Science Films for the German Classroom

With 16 short films on current topics ranging from climate change and sustainable energy production to artificial intelligence, students can immerse themselves in the world of science. Accompanying this, teaching resources are available for German CLIL lessons (level A2). The handouts with the original pictures can be ordered here.

Science Experiments with Joachim Hecker

Joachim Hecker demonstrates 10 exciting experiments in short videos. What types of metal burn? What happens when we boil styrofoam in hot water? Can sparklers burn in the water? Joachim Hecker gives an answer to these and similar questions in his videos. The films were made available by Joachim Hecker and the Science Film Festival.

Children have thousands of questions that may sound straightforward enough but can sometimes prove very tricky to answer. That’s why the Goethe-Institut created the Kinderuni, a free online platform that is open to all children. With Kinderuni children discover what role science plays in their everyday lives. At the same time they can learn German.

LINGO consists of a hands-on magazine for children between the ages of 8 and 12 as well as the MINTmobile website and app for teens aged 13 to 16. The contents of the magazine is dealt with in more depth both in the subject and linguistically on MINTmobil. All the magazines can be downloaded for free on the Lingo website
