About the Project

While many girls and young women play video games, they are still underrepresented in gaming communities and rarely see themselves reflected in the games they love.

“Game Changers – Girls in Gaming” is a regional project that empowers girls in the MENA region through hands-on training in game design, storytelling, coding, and digital art. The project aims to bridge the gender gap in the gaming industry and promote more inclusive, diverse narratives in digital games.

Workshop Overview

The program includes two rounds of workshops, each round spanning 3 to 4 days, held at the library of the Goethe-Institut Cairo (Dokki) in August and September 2025. Each round includes:
  • Core Workshops:
Focused on world-building and interactive storytelling, visual design, sound and music in games, game logic and basic game engines, as well as user experience. These titles and formats are flexible, and we encourage instructors to bring their own creative approach to the structure and delivery of each session. Sessions will be interactive, with a strong focus on hands-on learning and participant engagement. The participants will eventually be encouraged to follow a “Games for Change” mentality whereby the end of the workshops serios, they will be requested to design a game with a social or environmental purpose.
  • Game Testing Sessions:
1 to 2 sessions after the main workshops to support participants in finalizing and testing their games. The sessions will focus on playtesting and iteration. Instructors will guide them through the basics of iteration, usability testing, and debugging. The goal is to help the girls refine their projects and build creative confidence in a fun, collaborative and engaging format.
