Focus: Society and Diversity

What does gender equality mean, and how can we achieve it at a small level and across society? How can we strengthen civic engagement? These and many other questions are at the centre of discussion in trainings offered under the project “Focus: Society and Diversity”. As part of the Ta’ziz partnership, the project seeks to create space for discussion and the exchange of views on social issues and to further strengthen civil society patterns in Egypt.

In 2021 we will be focusing on themes of civic engagement and gender equality. Through several workshops we’re aiming at stimulating a multiplier effect and advancing knowledge transfer among civil society actors by connecting them to one another. The trainings will particularly take place outside of urban centres in order to reach a more diverse audience and target mainly youth workers. Trainings will be partially provided in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. Among other gaols the project seeks to encourage expression through artistic means and interactive methods, such as roll play, all of which can serve to challenge typical stereotypes. Once participants have completed the training, they will facilitate their own workshops to pass on their newly acquired knowledge to children and adolescents.

The goal of the project is to create opportunities of social participation, above all for women and young people, in particular to tackle rigid gender roles and discrimination. At the same time, it wishes to inspire participants to continue their engagement with local communities and to take an active part in shaping their society.
