Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

The Goethe-Institute e.V. is the globally active cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. We promote cultural exchange, education and social discourse in an international  context and support the teaching and learning of the German language. The Goethe-Institute Cairo is the regional institute of the MENA region.

About the Job offer

The position is a 100% full-time position (currently 40 hours per week) subject to funding, limited until October 14, 2026, with the option of extension until spring/summer 2028.

“Enhancing the arts and cultural ecosystem in Egypt” is an initiative that aims at empowering creative and cultural spaces to establish sustainable long-term programming that engages audiences, fosters local and international partnerships and supports youth engagement.

Responsibilities

In this role the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer will be responsible for the initiative’s monitoring and evaluation and bear overall responsibility for its implementation, ensuring quality and results by:
  • Developing the initiatives M&E plan and coordinating and supervising the implementation of the M&E measures in cooperation with relevant stakeholders and multipliers
  • Implementing and monitoring the M&E activities (create and evaluate surveys, organise focus group discussions etc.)
  • Knowledge Management: Collecting relevant information for the initiative and providing the project coordinators as well as the supervisors with reports and updated databases.
  • Managing the open calls of the initiative, ensuring compatibility with data protection laws in cooperation with the respective teams at the Goethe-Institute
  • Administrative & financial tasks linked to the M&E activities and other events.
  • Providing logistical support for the implementation of activities, workshops, and meetings

Our requirements - competencies:

  • Relevant university degree (or equivalent), preferably in the fields of communication, culture, arts, social or political studies
  • Relevant experience in developing and implementing the monitoring and evaluation systems of large projects
  • Relevant experience in designing survey, conducting interviews and other M&E methods Seite 2

  • Knowledge of relevant and new M&E tools
  • Very good MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Enthusiasm for culture
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize, organisational skills, ability to work in a team, communication skills, self-motivated and objective driven
  • Ability and sensitivity to work with a wide cross-section of partners and colleagues
  • Excellent knowledge of Arabic and English (oral, written, comprehension); knowledge of German would be an advantage
