Dear Colleagues and Friends,
This is our final newsletter before the summer break, and it also marks a personal farewell. After five wonderful years at Goethe-Institut UK, I will be taking up a new position as Head of Language at Goethe-Institut South Africa.
Looking back, I feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated and inspiring community of teachers, partners, and colleagues across the UK. Together, we have developed initiatives that have opened new pathways for young people, teachers, and adult learners to engage with the German language and culture – from the many GIMAGINE projects, our youth exchange programme Exchange2Change, and interactive German Clubs to innovative professional development opportunities for teachers.
As I leave, another initiative that is particularly close to my heart is about to begin: this autumn, the National German A-Level Class will launch its pilot phase, bringing together partners, schools, and teachers with the shared goal of expanding access to German at A-Level.
My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who has contributed to this journey and supported our work over the past five years. While I am excited for the next chapter, I leave knowing that German language education in the UK is in the hands of an extraordinary community of advocates and innovators.
Although I am moving to South Africa, I very much hope that our paths will continue to cross and that we will stay connected through our shared commitment to language learning, international exchange, and educational collaboration. The Goethe-Institut network is a remarkable global community, and I look forward to keeping in touch.
I wish you all a restful summer break and every success for the year ahead.
Mit herzlichen Grüßen,
Andrea Pfeil
(Head of Language Department United Kingdom)
