Germany / 2014 / 128’
Director: Burhan Qurbani
It is the evening of August 1992. Newly reunified Germany experiences a rise in anti-immigrant sentiment as discontent, uncertainty, and despair shape the social climate. In these tense times, Sandro, Robbie, and Stefan, a group of young people, found themselves in front of the Sonnenblumenhaus, the home of Vietnamese migrant workers, where local residents protested. What follows is an eruption of hate and anger.
Director Burhan Quarbani portrays the emotions of that time in a captivating, eye-opening way. At the same time, the film serves as a strong reminder of what socio-economic disruption can lead to.
