For this open call, we continue to invite curators to propose projects for our experimental exhibition space Goethe Gallery Tokyo that rethink the cultural dialogue between Germany and Japan. We welcome concepts that emphasize exchange, participation, and artistic experimentation.
REFLEKTOR accepts a wide range of formats, including traditional exhibitions, multimedia installations, performances, and hybrid approaches. The gallery aims to serve as both a mirror for emerging perspectives and a space where cultures interact and reflect on one another.
REFLEKTOR is open to curators of visual arts and related fields who are based in Japan with up to five years of professional experience in curation.
- Exhibition at the Goethe Gallery Tokyo
- Up to 6 weeks exhibition period plus one week each for installation and deinstallation
- Project budget of up to 900,000 JPY
- Additional budget for exhibition title wall print
- Accommodation in Tokyo for one person during installation week (subject to availability)
- Option to organize an opening reception
- A concept centered on Japanese German dialogue, including an artist list and project budget
- Production of the exhibition within the provided resources, including artist communication and on-site coordination
- Proposal for related programs (e.g., artist talks, workshops, digital elements)
- Delivery of press texts and images

- Supervision costs, if required, must be included in the budget
- Accessibility and diversity will be taken into consideration during project proposal selection
- A jury of curators/artists in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Tokyo will make the final selection
- Submission does not guarantee funding; decisions may not be accompanied by explanations

- Additional external funding may be used with prior approval from the Goethe-Institut Tokyo
