Volker Ullrich

After studying History, Literature, Philosophy and Education, Volker Ullrich worked as a high school teacher in Hamburg for several years. He then worked as a Research Assistant at the Hamburg Foundation for 20th Century Social History and headed the political book section at the newspaper ZEIT for almost 20 years. He has authored several historical non-fiction books, the first one was published in 1993 under the title Als der Thron ins Wanken kam. Das Ende des Hohenzollernreiches, 1890–1918. In 2013 he published the first volume of his comprehensive Hitler biography; the second followed five years later. Volker Ullrich was awarded the Alfred Kerr Prize for literary criticism in 1992.
