Daniel Kehlmann

Daniel Kehlmann grew up in Vienna and studied philosophy and German there. His literary debut was the 1997 novel Beerholms Vorstellung, for which he received the Deutscher Kulturförderpreis. His 2005 novel Die Vermessung der Welt, a fictional double biography of the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss and the naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, was a great German and international success. In addition to novels and short stories, Daniel Kehlmann also publishes essays and literary criticism. He has also held numerous poetry lectureships. His work has received many awards, including the Schubart Prize and the Anton Wildgans Prize in 2019. Daniel Kehlmann lives in Berlin and New York.
