The Goethe-Institut in Lisbon is located in the former Valmor Palace, at the Campo dos Mártires das Pátria in Arroios. With a magnificent garden, a large auditorium, a newly refurbished library, a café with an outside space and ten classrooms and offices of various sizes, it is a multipurpose venue in the center of Lisbon which can accommodate product launches, conferences and workshops, concerts and film screenings, as well as parties. There is an underground car park right outside the building.

Auditorium

The auditorium is the perfect place to showcase a wide variety of events, such as meetings, conferences, debates, workshops, film screenings, music concerts, and theatre performances, with the help of live streaming and simultaneous translation facilities. There is a cafeteria right outside the auditorium. The auditorium is 226m² in size and holds a maximum of 100 people sitting or 200 standing.

    The auditorium has a maximum capacity of 100 seats and is ideal for events such as conferences and debates. For bilingual events, there are simultaneous translation booths and headphones for the audience with language selection options (accomodates three different languages).

    The auditorium has a Steinway grand piano, a projector, a screen over the stage, columns and spotlights, making it ideal for theater performances, stand up and music shows.

    The venue is also available for film screenings.

    The auditorium is equiped with microphones, a simultaneous translation booth for three languages and streaming via wifi, making it an ideal place for meetings.

    Dance performances, rehearsals and parties can also be held in the auditorium thanks to the differentiated coloured light and integrated sound system.

    With flexible equipment, the auditorium can also be used as a big classroom, as well als for workshops and exams.

Garden

The garden venue dazzles with its mixture of exotic and local plants, making it a secret oasis in the heart of the bustling city. In the summer, you can enjoy a choice of daily dishes and German specialties in the terrace. The versatile grounds are suitable for all kinds of events, such as concerts, open-air film screenings, parties, and talks or presentation. The garden covers an area of 400m² and has a maximum capacity of 200 people.

    This venue can accommodate 200 people and is surrounded by greenery and large trees.

    The noise of the city is drowned out in this magnificent oasis, with the chirping of birds giving the place a unique atmosphere that is ideal for a relaxing time.

    From one of the most hidden corners, you can see Carmo hill and the garden of the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.

    At music festivals, football matches or simple work lunches, the long tables and benches give the garden a typically German flair and invite everyone to share a beer with friends and colleagues.

    On warm summer and autumn evenings, the garden can also become a stage for music and dance events thanks to moveable sound systems and ornate lighting.

    The venue has an outdoor screen and projector so that cinema shows can be held in the garden in the evenings.

Library

The library space is divided up between a work area, fitted with individual writing desks, a conference room, a small garden, and a comfortable reading lounge with sofas. The library venue is also used for events, such as film screenings, book presentations, debates and parties in a relaxed atmosphere. The library is 120m² in size and has a maximum capacity of 30-50 people sitting or 70 standing.

    The main library room is located on the ground floor of the Goethe-Institut, overlooking the garden. Here you will find the reading room, the reception for new registrations and enquiries and the self service checkout.

    In the main room, there are eleven tables for individual and small group work, equipped with power sockets, lamps and wifi, ideal for learning and working in a quiet environment.

    In the lounge, the confortable sofas and armchairs invite you to read in a cosy and relaxed setting, surrounded by art books. Small concerts can also be held in this section of the room.

    The meeting room, which has space for ten to twelve people, is perfect for group work and project meetings. The room is equiped with a whiteboard and projector and can be booked in advance.

    The reading garden is an extension of the library where users can use the tables and chairs for reading and working in a green environment. This venue has space for 12 seated, 30 standing people and is accessible only through the library.

    The library is the ideal spot for reading or film sessions in a cozier atmosphere.

Classrooms and offices

At the Goethe Institute in Lisbon there are ten differently sized classrooms, offices and workspaces, with maximum capacities of 16 to 25 people. The classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and regular boards, allowing a lot of flexibility for courses, workshops or meetings

    The Goethe-Institut in Lisbon has 10 classrooms with a capacity of 16 to 25 people each.

    Thanks to the WLAN connection, interactive whiteboards and flexible furniture, the classrooms can be used not only for courses, but also for meetings and workshops.
