Deutsch Lehren Lernen (DLL) is the Goethe-Institut’s practical continuing education and professional development series for teachers, based on the latest didactic research. Develop your professional skills by trying out new ways of teaching and reflecting on your own experiences. DLL is designed to fit your schedule: blended learning from the comfort of your own home, accompanied by experienced DLL Tutors.
100% Online format with 3 live sessions of 60 minutes each, in which cooperative projects are worked on and presented, and the subject matter is discussed.
Participation in 2 out of 3 live sessions is mandatory. If you are unable to attend one of the 3 sessions, you can instead watch the recording and submit a summary. The dates for these live sessions will be set together during the first week.
Depending on the group size, participants will be supported by 1 or 2 DLL tutors.
A theory and exercise book will be made available online for free.
What you'll get out of a course
DLL promotes the expansion of methodological and didactic skills, as well as intercultural exchange. Participants in our courses work on joint practical exploration projects (PEPs) in multicultural and multinational groups. You will be meeting colleagues from all over Europe. The programme is structured to fit into the busy schedule of teachers.
Each DLL module is guided by a course book. A PDF version of the book will be made available on our free e-learning-platform.
DLL courses are structured into tutored lessons and assignments. Learning is meant to fit around the work schedule of busy teachers.
Fixed and flexible learning units
In weeks 9 and 10, a Practical Exploration Project (PEP) will be carried out in group work – in week 10, you will implement this in your teaching. Ideally, you should have access to teaching during this time. If this is not possible, please inform your DLL tutors at the start of the course.
Participation in 2 out of 3 online live sessions is mandatory to pass the course. If you are unable to attend a live session, you can watch the recording and submit a summary.
You can join the Online-Live sessions from your computer at home, you would just need a stable internet connection, a headset with a microphone and headphones as well as a camera.
Practical and fun assignments
The assignments you'll be given in DLL courses are designed to be practical and to let you experience the joy of teaching and teamwork. They include:
Exchange in forums on the learning platform
Exploration exercises
Reflection exercises
Tutored portfolio exercises
Practical Exploration Project (PEP) in weeks 9 and 10.
DLL focuses on the skills and competencies needed for teaching and builds upon them. DLL provides numerous examples from real teaching practice in the form of interviews with teachers, examples of teaching materials or lesson plans as well as video recordings of lessons. Practical Exploration Projects encourage reflective experiential learning and allow for new perspectives of teaching.
At the end of the course, participants will receive a title certifying their participation in their DLL professional development action. In order to receive a confirmation of attendance, learners will have:
Completed 7-8 exploration tasks
Completed all reflection tasks
Attended at least 2 out of 3 online live sessions (if you miss one of the 3 sessions, you can watch the recording and submit a summary instead)
