Our translated titles also offer non-German readers the opportunity to learn about literature, culture, society, politics, and current events in Germany. Another focus is our German as a Foreign Language collection.

Registration and library membership

The library is open to the public and the use of books and media is free of charge. A valid library card is required to borrow media. You must register for this in person at the library.

Registration is possible via our online form. Please fill out the form to register registration and confirm your email address. Then come by our library within seven days to finalise the registration. You will need an ID card and current proof of address for this. You may also fill out a printed registration form during our consultation hours.

Registrations, membership renewals, and fee payments can only be completed during consultation hours.

Library membership is required to borrow media.
Yearly membership (valid for 12 months)

Membership fee: Free

The loan period for all media is 3 weeks. A maximum of 8 media can be borrowed, of which no more than 3 DVDs/CDs.

In our library's online catalog (OPAC), you can browse through our media offerings around the clock and get an overview of the books, CDs, DVDs, journals, and electronic resources that are in our collection.

If you are a library member, you can create your own user account in the online catalog (OPAC).
Personalized use of the OPAC offers you the following benefits:
  • Display of the media you have borrowed including due date
  • Extension of the loan period of your media
  •  Insight into open and paid fees
  • Transmission of acquisition suggestions for the library's media stock
  • Commenting on media
  • Overview of the media you have borrowed in the past

Lending conditions

The media of the library language and in 798 can be borrowed. A self-checkout system is available in the Language Library. The self-checkout terminal can only be used with a valid library card.

A maximum of 10 items can be borrowed.
The loan period is 3 weeks.

EXTENSIONS

Extension of the loan period is possible. Media can be extended twice for another 3 weeks if they are not reserved.
 

Borrowed titles can be pre-ordered online in the OPAC, on site or by email.

After their arrival you will be notified by us. Pre-ordered media will be held for you for one week.

The return of the media can be made during the opening hours of the library.

It is requested that all media be handled with care and that no underlining or entries be made in the books. The borrower is liable for damage or loss. Borrowers are responsible for compliance with copyright regulations.
