CAV’ PLATFORM

The Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) in South Africa are fragmented and visibility as an industry is weak. There is a fundamental lack of professional advice for entrepreneurs in the creative industry, but also a lack of understanding and knowledge of the specific needs of creative entrepreneurs and on how the creative industry could be strengthened.

The Project ‘Cav’ Platform’ aimed to contribute to existing efforts by government and civil society organisations to coordinate the CCI through networking and creating possibilities for the visibility of the industry. The project also strove to help the CCI ecosystem recognise the work its various parts are doing to further develop the industry.

The objectives of the Cav’ Platform was to provide a space for dialogue, networking and resource sharing. This was achieved through conferences and other dialogue formats, a virtual platform and business development support - in the hope that where discord and gaps were recognized, the industry would be able to strategise in efforts to better address the needs on the CCI.

One format of the Cav’ Platform can be found on Facebook, another one is its official website.

The project Cultural and Creative Industries was jointly implemented from late 2018 until early 2023 by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Goethe-Institut on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It improved employment and income opportunities for creative professionals in six partner countries: Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa. The project operated mainly in the music, fashion, design and animation sectors. In addition to promoting the development of entrepreneurial, digital, creative and technical skills through training programmes, the project aimed to strengthen the framework conditions and the ecosystem of the cultural and creative industries.
