Theatre in the Backyard in O’kiep

Theatre in the Backyard is collaborating with Garage Dance Ensemble to present a performance in one of the backyards in O’kiep, Namaqualand in the Northern Cape. Stories and narratives were developed on site in O’kiep with young dancers from Garage Dance Ensemble and community members.   The final production will be performed in Afrikaans and English.

Working in ‘non’ theatrical spaces such as a backyard brings art and everyday experience closer. Directed by the Artistic Director of Theatre in the Backyard, Mhlanguli George, and choreographed by Dustin Jannetjies under the mentorship of Alfred Hinkel and John Linden.

This project is realised in collaboration with “Goethe-Institut Project Space” (GPS). GPS is a multi-disciplinary roving project space which supports work realized all over South Africa ranging from workshops to exhibitions, events and performances; including visual art, literature, film, music, dance and theatre projects.
