The German Film Office is pleased to present Eline Gehring’s award-winning film Nico as its German Movie Night selection for May. The film will be available to stream across the United States.

Cheerful, self-confident German-Persian Nico is a geriatric nurse with a special connection to her elderly patients. With her best friend Rosa she enjoys the summer in Berlin. But when a racist attack tears her from her carefree life, she realizes that she doesn’t belong quite as she thought. Plagued by fragmented memories of the attack, she starts isolating herself more and more. She turns away from Rosa and changes her demeanor at work – until she decides to get help from karate world champion Andy.

“In the title role, co-writer Sara Fazilat anchors the film with a performance that is at once dynamic, complex, and endearing. Director Eline Gehring’s supremely assured feature debut tells an engrossing and timely tale of what it takes to overcome the prejudice of others.” (Cindy Lou Peeples, Frameline Film Festival)

World premiere: Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival
