The German Film Office is pleased to announce School of Magical Animals as its Kids Kino pick for May.
Unless otherwise stated, all films in this series are suitable for general audiences and are presented in German with English subtitles.
Ida must transfer to a new school and has a hard time in her new class. One day, her teacher announces that soon every kid in the class will be assigned a “magical animal” who is to become their friend for life. Of all people, outsiders Ida and Benni are the first to receive new companions: Ida is paired with the sly fox Rabbat, and Benni with the skateboarding turtle Henrietta. These magical animals can talk, and they have very unique characters. While Ida and Rabbat become the class stars, Benni remains an outsider. But there are other reasons for excitement at school: objects keep disappearing, and it seems like a school thief is going around! Wild suspicions start circulating and so the search for the culprit begins.
Based on the popular book series by Margit Auer, with over 4.8 million copies sold in German-speaking countries.
At the 2022 German Film Awards, School of Magical Animals received awards for Best Visual Effects and Highest Grossing Film of the Year.
