KINO! Film Salon is a monthly online club to discuss films from Germany.
 
How it works: Each month we choose a German film or series currently available to stream on U.S. platforms, watch it independently, and come together for a hosted conversation with other fans of German film.
 
For our last session of the year we picked Ingo Haeb’s The Chambermaid Lynn, featuring a remarkable breakout performance by Vicky Krieps (Corsage, Bergman Island, Phantom Thread) as Lynn, an inscrutable, neurotic chambermaid with a penchant for voyeurism. While surreptitiously spying on a hotel client, Lynn encounters a professional dominatrix, who helps her embark on a journey of sexual self-discovery. Haeb’s sensitive direction doesn’t shy from the film’s inherent eroticism, but neither does it become lurid, crass, or exploitative. Instead, The Chambermaid Lynn is a unique character study and a celebration of sexual awakening, powerfully driven by Krieps’ fearless, vulnerable performance.    Register The Chambermaid Lynn won the Neues Deutsches Kino award in the category Acting (Vicky Krieps) at the Munich Film Festival as well Best Artistic Contribution and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Montreal World Film Festival, among others.
