As family patriarch Symcha Zweifler (Mike Burstyn) announces his plan to sell his delicatessen empire, he is suddenly confronted with his past in Frankfurt's red light district just after WWII—an acid test for the whole family as long-suppressed conflicts resurface. Things get worse when Symcha's grandson Samuel (Altaras) and his girlfriend Saba (Coomber) announce that they are expecting a son. A tragic-comic search for the meaning of life begins, culminating in decisions that will change the lives of everyone involved.
Between Frankfurt and Berlin, two cities as vibrant as New York can be, this contemporary tale of a Jewish family tells the story of the inheritance of the family delicatessen between three, soon to be four, generations of Zweiflers. Led by an incredible ensemble cast, this multi-awrd-winning series shows how the past of some and the future of others come to clash.
