KINO! Film Salon is a monthly online club to discuss films from Germany.
 
How it works: Each month we choose a German film currently available to stream on U.S. platforms, watch it independently, and come together for a hosted conversation with other fans of German cinema.

For our August session, we chose Thomas von Steinaecker’s intimate documentary Werner Herzog: Radical Dreamer, which combines footage from Herzog’s everyday life, rare archival material, and interviews with him and his many collaborators, including Robert Pattinson, Nicole Kidman, Patti Smith, and Wim Wenders. KINO! Film Salon host Jim Kolmar notes that Werner Herzog: Radical Dreamer “takes full advantage of Herzog’s weirdly avuncular charm and humor, his deep insight, and his clear spirit of self-inquiry. For all the austerity and opacity that sometimes define his films, this is a beautifully intimate, charming portrait of a remarkable artist showing no signs of slowing down.”

Werner Herzog: Radical Dreamer debuted at the Telluride Film Festival and was nominated for best international documentary at the Calgary International Film Festival.
