At once intricately engaged with the real world and steeped in film history, the films of Christian Petzold radically reimagine such genres as film noir, thriller, melodrama, and the spy drama, offering narrative mysteries, enigmatic protagonists immersed in even more enigmatic circumstances, an incomparable sense of atmosphere and style, and surprising links between Germany’s turbulent past and its fragile present.

In celebration of the release of his latest Miroirs No. 3 on March 20, Film at Lincoln Center welcomes Petzold to present a selection of his acclaimed films, with many screenings in 35mm. Prints of Barbara, Ghosts, and The State I Am In courtesy of the Goethe-Institut/German Film Office.
