He is a product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where he earned a BFA and MFA in painting and sculpture. His practice is situated in the fields of painting, illustration and street art. He was named recipient of the Kuenyehia prize for Ghanaian Contemporary Art in 2016. Known for his sociopolitical satire project #abonsamcartoons, Ackwerh’s practice has been heavily influenced by Ghanaian artist duo FOKN BOIS and the work of Nigerian activist and musician Fela Kuti in how they have made social commentary and his focus has recently been centered on artistic explorations of pop culture as medium. His work has been shown in group exhibitions in Ghana and abroad including ‘Cornfields in Accra’ in2016, ‘Orderly Disorderly’ in 2017 and his first solo ‘Where De Cho Dey’ in 2018. He has also been involved in organizing art workshops in the northern region of Ghana, collaborating with some development agencies based in Tamale. Ackwerh still continues to share his practice with universities engaging with students of art, history, anthropology and other related fields his work bends into and his practice has been written about in several dissertations on ecological themes because of his research around 'Galamsey'; an illicit gold mining practice in Ghana.

In 2025 his work was shown in Toronto as part of the Jackman Humanities Institute's annual arts program.

Even though he couldn't attend the show personally due to unfair visa restrictions the exhibition was still held in his stead by colleagues from the University of Toronto reflecting the strong community he is developing around his practice.
