Rania Atef
Rania Atef is a visual artist and cultural practitioner based in Cairo. Her work explores the notion of play across diverse mediums, focusing on different forms of labor, care, domesticity, and authority, and their intersectional trajectories within social and artistic contexts. She is particularly interested in togetherness, collectivity, and the sharing of resources as artistic and social strategies.
She holds a BA in Applied Arts from Helwan University (EG), has participated in the TASAWAR Curatorial Studies Program (TN), and in MASS Alexandria’s independent studio and study program (EG). Lately, she took part in the IFE curatorial program in collaboration with Cairo Photo week (2025). And she was one of the mentors in the “MADA” program by 1718 for emerging artists. Also Atef is a co-founding member of “K-oh-llective.”
Her work has been shown at ARD Art Institute in Cairo (2025),”Short Blanket” in Munich (2025), Les Complices* in Zurich (2024), Kunstverein in Hamburg (2023), Musée de la Fondation Slaoui in Casablanca (2023), Archive of Forgetfulness in South Africa (2021), Hotel Beethoven, BOZAR in Brussels (2020), and Artists at Work, KSCC in Poland (2020).
She received the Prince Claus Seed Award (2021), the British Council Award in Roznama (2021), Gypsum Bursaries (2022), the Prince Claus Building Beyond Mentorship Award (2022/23), and participated in the Orbitals Program by Mophradat (2024).
Atef has also contributed to public programs including Rehearsing Hospitalities 4, Re-imagining Future African Cities, Tashweesh, QAYYEM, and Biennale Warsaw.
