Younes Ben Slimane
Younès Ben Slimane (1992) is a Tunisian visual artist and filmmaker.
He graduated in architecture from the National School of Architecture and Urbanism in Tunis before completing postgraduate studies at Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains (FR).
His work has been showcased at B7L9 and the Jaou Tunis Biennale in Tunis (TN), the Mucem in Marseille (FR), the Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain in Dakar (SN), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje (MK), the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris (FR), the Beirut Art Center (LB), ETH Zurich – gta exhibitions in Zurich (CH), the Versailles Architecture Biennale in Versailles (FR), the Art Explora Museum Boat across Mediterranean ports, the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery in Montreal (CA), and the Wexner Center for the Arts in Ohio (US), among others.
His recent solo exhibitions have taken place at the Zaha Hadid Foundation in London (UK) and the Galeria de Arte Cinemática in Vila do Conde (PT).
His films have been selected for international festivals including the Locarno Film Festival (CH), Black Star Film Festival (US), CPH:DOX (DK), DokuFest (XK), EXiS Seoul, (KR) and Prismatic Ground New York (US), among others.
He has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Bourse Émergence from ADIAF (the association behind the Marcel Duchamp Prize, 2025), the Art Eco-Conception Prize awarded by Art of Change 21 and the Palais de Tokyo (2025), the Loop Barcelona Award (2022, ES), Prince Claus Fund seed award 2021 (NL), the Studio Collector Prize (2021, FR), and the Golden Tanit for Best First Film at the Carthage Film Days, Tunisia’s oldest and most renowned film festival.
Ben Slimane was a fellow at the RAW Material Company Academy led by Felwine Sarr in Dakar (SN). He has participated in several residencies, notably at the Villa Medici in Rome (IT), AlUla Arts in AlUla (SA), Fondation Thalie in Brussels (BE), and Fondation Fiminco in Romainville (FR).
His work is part of major art collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) and Kadist Paris–San Francisco.
He is currently developing a new commissioned video installation for the upcoming Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement (BIM) in Geneva. He is also preparing a new film supported by the FocusScript programme of the Cannes Film Festival.
