International media, service and education firm Bertelsmann brings the successful literature format “Das Blaue Sofa” to Weimar with partners ZDF, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and 3sat. British Germany correspondent Kate Connolly, philosopher Philipp Hübl, columnist Jagoda Marinic and sociologist Steffen Mau will each have a 20-minute slot to present their latest book. Together with presenters Daniel Fiedler, Vivian Perkovic and Marie Sagenschneider, they will discuss the cultural symposium’s central questions: How can you stay on top of things in a complex, global world? How can you remain autonomous and self-sufficient in this world? How do populists change politics and society? How do digitalisation and globalisation influence the economy and our society?

Das Blaue Sofa is the joint literature format of Bertelsmann, ZDF and Deutschlandfunk Kultur and 3sat. Since the Leipzig Book Fair in 2000, 2,752 discussions with 1,687 authors have taken place on Das Blaue Sofa. Among the authors were Nobel Prize winners Svetlana Alexijewitsch, Michail Gorbatschow, Günter Grass, Herta Müller, Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, Orhan Pamuk, Joseph Stiglitz, Mario Vargas Llosa and Mo Yan.
