Festival highlights include:
A roaming performance from larger-than-life brass collective Hot Potato Band will transform the whole festival area into an exhilarating dance party. Come early to witness this multi-headed brass bash!
Having just returned from Berlin, electronic heavyweight Deepchild will bring the evening to a close with a bouncy set showing why a Sydney artist gets booked to play at Berghain and Tresor, as well as in Detroit and Tokyo.
Innovative songwriter Brian Campeau will demonstrate why a Canadian who lives in Melbourne integrates traditional yodelling vocal techniques into his original indie-pop songs.
A special classical music segment will focus on promising young artists: violinist Violeta Shopova’s trio will play works by Clara Schumann, and Opera Australia hand-picked Chelsea Burns and Lachlann Lawton to sing a lieder program.
Bilingual festival favourites The Beez will present their German-Australian smorgasbord of bitingly satirical, eminently danceable and creative songs – a sublime pastiche of music and comedy.
Fluxus-inspired DJ and entertainer Peter Bäcker will play a rapid-fire sequence of 1980s bangers, not shying away from Neue Deutsche Welle hits and even a Schlager here or there – better get ready to sing along!
For SBS radio German, Benjamin Kanthak will present his Lauschzeit radio program, featuring a live-to-air broadcast of the latest popular music from Germany, ranging from indie-rock to hip hop and everything in between.
And as if that’s not enough, we will have a bouncing castle, a major raffle, a breathtaking fire performance, eco-friendly face-painting, a children’s choir, a table-tennis room, wild trivia sessions, fun German lessons and a VR experience with our language teachers, a book and craft corner by Woollahra Council Library… and lots and lots of FOOD AND DRINK.
Market stalls will include Berliner Bakery, Berlin Food Bunker, Beste Beer Bar, Cult Hero Designs, Dippin’ Dots, German Grill Haus, Knuckles2you, Master Gozleme, Organic Bread Bar, Pop's Cornshack, Taste Drinks, That Ginger Place, Tornado Potatoes, Volkswurst, Wine Window, Wish Toys, and more.
The Festival brings together a wide variety of top-class German companies and institutions: The German Consulate General, the German-Australian Chamber of Commerce, DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), German International School Sydney (GISS), Friends of Goethe, German-Australian Business Women Association, Beiersdorf, Jungheinrich, Macquarie University, Melitta, SBS German, Die Deutschstunde, Auslandsschulwesen, NSW School of Languages, University of NSW, University of Sydney, Froebel Kindergarten, Wilkhahn, Zeiss and more.
