DIRECTOR/SCREENPLAY: Fatih Akin
CAST: Anand Batbileg, Tristan Göbel, Nicole Mercedes Müller
LANGUAGE: German with English subtitles
Summer. A stolen car. With nothing less than the whole world to discover. Fatih Akin tells the story of two outsiders who experience a life changing road trip together. To Maik and Tschick, two unlikely friends, it becomes a road trip into adulthood. Tschick is a teenager from a poor district of Berlin who was born to Russian immigrants. Emotionally neglected Maik, however, is from an upper middle class family. The film is based on Wolfgang Herrndorf’s coming of age story Tschick (the title in Australia is Why We Took the Car).

Considered one of the most successful directors in contemporary Germany, Fatih Akin grew in international acclaim through his films Head On (2004) and Soul Kitchen (2009). Drawing on aspects of his own German-Turkish background, Akin has often focused on themes such as cultural diversity and social integration, earning him countless awards and the Federal Cross of Merit in 2010. www.tschick-film.de

QUOTES FROM CRITICS:
"In this adaptation of Wolfgang Herrndorf’s best seller, Fatih Akin taps into our 'inner teenager'. In a wonderfully old-fashioned and truthful way he tells a story of freedom and a summer of adventure." Anke Sterneborg in epd Film (5 Stars *****)
