Myra Beltran on Dancers Curate

Myra Beltran set into motion the independent contemporary dance scene in the Philippines, striking out on her own as an independent artist in 1991, and starting her Dance Forum in 1997. Together with what became the Contemporary Dance Network Manila, she set up in 2005 the Contemporary Dance Map, a series of intimate contemporary performances “staged” in each network member’s studios. The success of the Map led to the establishment of the Wifi Body Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Despite the celebration of the last festival in 2014, Beltran continues her artistic pursuits, producing a year-long dance residency entitled Dancers Curating Dancers, which has been nicknamed Dancers Curate. In this profile, Beltran discusses the new project, while also reflecting on past explorations and achievements.More ...
