"Born in Germany in 1964, Reiner Leist emigrated twice, from Germany to South Africa (1988-1994) and then from South Africa to the USA. He studied Visual Arts and Photography in Munich, Cape Town and New York.
His works are ongoing, often participatory projects, which examine the relationship between individual lives and societies, history, landscape and architecture. Since 1994 Rainer Leist works on “American Portraits” and since 2001 also on several projects in Asia.
He has had numerous exhibitions in Germany, USA and Japan. Rainer Leist presently teaches at Hunter College, City University of New York."
