The Painting Boards
These installations for creativity and play were made in the workshop of the woodworker Berul in Stolipinovo.
In the neighbourhood live many craftsmen, in whose hands beautiful and bizarre objects are born. Often they make toys for children - spinning tops, dolls, hoops. This craftsmanship is unknown to most children in Plovdiv. With the painting boards we want to show you this potential.
The installation was designed with the help of the Children`s City team and is inspired by an old double-glazed window. As we lifted the frame to move it, it almost fell apart and stood open like a book. We brought a few such windows into Berul's workshop. In two architectural workshops in Stolipinovo we carefully cleaned the frames, replaced the plexiglass window panes, strengthened the structure and created a folding and opening mechanism. Of course we painted the wooden elements in bright colours.
The construction of the painting boards included Miroslav, Dessislava, Donika, Valentin, Ivan, Genika, Lenko, Mitko, Zhivka, Petya, Yavor, Kami, Freya, Gunda, Emily, Vanya, Tsvetomir, Svetozar and Veronika under the expert guidance of Berul.
On Children`s Day - the 1st of June - the painting boards popped on the lawn of the children's town. The children found uses that we had never suspected. The most fun was painting your friend's face, which was on the other side of the transparent plexiglass.
You can see the installation at the foot of Youth Hill near the Children's City. Bring your children to work on the painting boards and participate in the children's architectural workshops in the Children's City on weekends!
