Dr Atef Ahmed is an alumnus of the civic education program, facilitated by the Dialogue and Transition Program. Based in Cairo, he works as an Education Development Consultant with an experience of more than 28 years in the field of teaching educational programs, civic education, youth development and project management, environment. He has further been engaged in international conferences giving input about education development.

In the framework of the Alumni programs Atef has led a training with the title “Think How to Think”. The workshop aimed at conveying good work ethics as well as a set of tools and techniques to apply critical thinking skills in Egypt’s education sector. Participants practiced these skills through using edutainment clips, questioning and debating strategies in order to find the best solution in making better decisions within the scope of education. Dr Atef believes the training is an added value for everyone as it enhances language and presentation skills, and equip people with the necessary tools to analyse the issues and problems in Egypt’s education system such as: sport for girls, sex education, school uniform, student’s assessment, school meals, Board of Trustees, Egyptian teachers’ salaries, private tutoring, special needs students, corruption in education sector, equality and equity in schools. Thinking clearly, logically, and systematically can improve the way we express our ideas in order to find the best interpretation and solutions for our problems and challenges in education.

"There is no doubt that critical thinking is an urgent priority for all people when we seek transition or change in our communities." Currently, Atef is responsible for a consultancy assignment for Workforce Improvement and Skills Enhancement (WISE); a project managed by MTC International Development Holding Company and funded by USAID/Egypt. The aim of the assignment is to develop a “School Governance Manual” tailored to personnel at Technical and Vocational Secondary Education Schools to promote transparency, integrity, accountability and social participation.
