The Goethe-Institut Cairo has offered three emerging filmmakers from the Germany, Yemen, and Morocco the opportunity to spend five weeks in the residency space “Weiße Villa” in the neighbourhood of Dokki in Cairo, Egypt. The residency provides a unique possibility to exchange with the Egyptian film scene, visit film festivals, and to develop film projects further.

Asim Abdulaziz

Asim Abdulaziz (b. 1996, Aden, Yemen) is a Filmmaker, Visual Artist, and Producer. In 2021 Asim directed his first short film 1941, which was exhibited at the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art 2022 and at The VA Museum in London 2023. Further, 1941 has received various international festival awards and selections. In 2022, Asim worked as an art director of the first winning Yemeni feature film to be selected at the Berlinale Film Festival 2023 "The Burdened" and his work has also been featured in The Washington Post, ArtNews, i-D, and Hypebeast amongst other publications.

Zakaria NOURI was born in Casablanca. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, he continued his studies in audio-visual engineering, graduating with a diploma in audiovisual engineering. Zakaria then moved to Belgium, where he continued his professional training by joining directing workshops and working on various audiovisual and cinematographic projects as first assistant director between Belgium and Morocco. In 2020, Zakaria directed his first short film "aicha", selected in 100 international festivals. His second short film is in post-production. Zakaria is currently developing his first feature film entitled ultras.

Selena Goedeke Tort is a German-Spanish filmmaker and anthropologist. Raised in Hamburg, she lived in various countries during her school and college years, including Argentina, Bolivia, and Cuba. Since 2017, she has been based in Berlin, dedicating herself to filmmaking. She studied directing at filmArche, leading to the realization of her own film projects. The project "DEERS LOVE BLUEBERRIES," where she co-directed with two other female directors, was screened at the "17th achtung berlin Filmfestival " and the "Sehsüchte International Student Film Festival". Currently, she is enthusiastically working on her first documentary film project.
