ISI Surakarta is the first state-funded arts university in Surakarta.
As the country’s second oldest arts university, ISI has been a veritable artistic and education hub for Indonesia’s most talented performing artists since its establishment in 1964. Its 13 departments, which incl. dance, music, theatre, shadow puppetry, batik-making, and even traditional weaponry, annually trains over 4,000 students –60% of whom came from smaller towns and rural areas in Java and other islands on scholarships.
More recently, ISI is pursuing to elevate the annual Student Entrepreneurship Fund Program (PMW) into a real incubation center with trained coaches and specialized modules. The university is also revamping its curriculum to include cultural entrepreneurship as core teaching in all its 13 departments.
