We are pleased to present a selection of activities of the Goethe-Institut Irak in our newsletter and hope you enjoy reading the March 2024 issue.

Announcements

Art Exhibition

Helan

On Friday, March 8 at 6pm, the Helan exhibition with the title “Existence” will be opened. 
The exhibition shows the results of Helan symposium, where 17 artists explored during three days the role of women in society through their art, in talks and discussions. 
The pieces make room for dialogue on the importance of women in culture, arts and decision making. 
Helan is a project by Goethe-Institut Irak in cooperation with Sêv Gallery and Framing Photojournalism School. 

Literature

Al-Mada Reading Club

Both, on March 2 and 9, Goethe-Institut Irak and al-Mada Reading Club invite to their literary evenings in Mali Wafaye, starting 6pm
On March 2, we’ll discuss the novel “Death is Hard Work” by Khaled Khalifa, the discussion will be led by Dr. Bassam Marai. On March 9, in the framework of “a book I read”, the two novels “Amok” by Stefan Zweig and “in the country of men” by Hisham Matar 
Will be discussed by Mahmoud al-Jamal al-Shaykha and Almustafa Mukhtar. 
The literary evening is a cooperation between Goethe-Institut Irak and al-Mada Reading Club.

Literature

Literary Walk

The next literary walk will take place on March 7 in the Sami Abdulrahman Park in Erbil, where we will learn more about the poets Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri and Mastoureh Ardalan together with Khayriya Shwano.  
Meeting point is 3 p.m. at the statue of Jawahiri. 

Kids' Activity

Bulbul

On March 7 from 6-7:30 p.m., thoughts will take wings, when the six to nine-year-old participants at Bulbul read stories and then implement them in an artistic activity. In the upcoming event in Erbil, we will talk about friendship and paint on wood. 
The activity takes place in cooperation with Sêv Gallery. 
 
 

Ramadan Edition

KultKino / Ciné CLub

On March 14 and 28, film lovers can once again expect a KultKino/CinéClub evening at the Institut Francais d’Irak à Erbil.  
Before the film there will be an iftar, the event starts at 6:30 p.m.  
On March 14th we will embark on a search for identity with Eloïse, who suffers from amnesia, with the film “la page blanche” by Murielle Magellan.
On March 28th, in “der Junge muss an die frische Luft” by Caroline Link, nine-year-old Hans-Peter discovers his talent for making others laugh. 

Learning German

Erbil

Regulars' Table

On Tuesday, March 5 we will meet again at 7 p.m. to practice German in a relaxed atmosphere. Both beginners and experts are welcome. The meeting point is the “Big Chefs” restaurant in Erbil.

Experienced academics with knowledge of German can apply for a place in the “Horizons” program until March 31st. Networking, insights into new markets and exchange at eye level are the pillars of the project.

With the offers to learn German for free, both beginners and advanced learners can improve their language skills.

The Goethe-Institut Irak will be closed on March 20 and 21, as well as on March 31 and April 1.
